Yashima Station

overview

Yashima Station is the terminal station of the Chokaisanroku Line and is used as a means of transportation in the region and as a gateway to Chokaisan sightseeing.
The Yashima Line was partially opened in 1922 (Taisho 11) by Osho Railway Co., Ltd. from Ugo Honjo to Maego Station in the middle of the line, but was nationalized in 1937 (Showa 12), and the entire line was opened to Yashima Station in 1938 (Showa 13).
At that time, the transportation of lumber and rice cargoes played a major role.
Eventually, it was targeted for abolition as a loss-making local line of Japan National Railways, and in 1985 (Showa 60), a third-sector company, Yurikogen Railway Ltd. was established, and its trains are known by the nickname “Obako-go.”
The current station building was completed in 2000 and is widely used for local events.”
