overview
Yashima Shrine.
Yashima Shrine was built in 1883 (Meiji 16) by about 140 former Yashima clan members and voluntary representatives of the people of the territory to honor the virtues of the first lord of the clan, Chikamasa Ikoma.
In 1898 (Meiji 31), the last feudal, Lord Chikayuki Ikoma, was enshrined at the shrine.
On May 13 of every year, a festival is held at the shrine, where the Ujiko (shrine parishioners) pray and hold a rite known as “Naorai” in which offering of food to the gods are later eaten by the festival participants to pray for peace and tranquility in the community.
