overview
Yashima Shinmeisha Shrine.
Yashima Shinmeisha Shrine has been located in this town since ancient times. In 1640 (Kan’ei 17), it became the property of the Ikoma clan, and Shinmeisha became the town’s local Shinto shrine.
Originally located at the lower left of Fukuoji Temple, it was destroyed by fire during the Boshin War in 1868 (Keio 4).
A new shrine building was constructed on the present site in 1900.
The 400-year-old “Yashima Hassaku Festival” was held on the first day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar at Yashima Shinmeisha Shrine, and is now held on the second Sunday of September with the festival-eve vigil held on the Saturday before the festival.
