overview
Hassaku Festival.
With a history spanning 400 years, the Hassaku Festival, so named because it was held on the first day of the eighth lunar month (the first day of the eighth lunar month), is a festival held at Yashima Shinmeisha Shrine to pray for a bountiful harvest and good health.
During the festival-eve vigil, the sound of Kagura drums echoes to welcome the Mikoshi (portable shrine), and the ritual ceremony is held at Yashiima Shinmeisha Shrine.
During the festival, six floats and masquerades parade through the town, and the Mikoshi, which stayed overnight at Ugajinja during the festival-even vigil, returns to Shinmisha Shrine. Each household decorates a tatami room facing the street with a curtain and lanterns with family crests, and waits for and worships the mikoshi and floats.
Currently, the festival is held on the second Sunday of September, and the festival-eve vigil on the Saturday before the festival.
The festival is designated as a city-designated cultural asset (intangible folk-cultural property).
