Atago Nishinomiya Shrine.
Atago Nishinomiya Shrine is dedicated to the god of protection against fire and misfortune, the guardian of maritime fisheries, health and longevity, and the prevention of epidemic diseases, as well as the god of thunder, since lightning struck the shrine grounds during the Ansei Era and caused a fire in the area. Commonly called “Ichigami-san.” the shrine is revered by the people of Tachimachi, Yashimamachi.
There is a magnificent ceiling painting of a dragon by Eiwa Chikamatsu, a painter in the service of Lord Ikoma, as well as many framed haiku poems on display, reminding us of the cultural and merchant town atmosphere of Tachimachi.
